One of Las Vegas’s most recent mom and pop success stories, Komex, has authored yet another chapter in their amazing journey. Their origin story is known by many…Lynda and Sonny owned a small Mexican market where Sonny used to cook lunch for themselves. Those Korean and Mexican fusion meals became hits with a couple customers lucky enough to sample the fare and as word spread, others came in looking to purchase them. The opening of their first restaurant soon followed.
Three years later they have opened their second location at the corner of Flamingo and Buffalo. A bigger space with a bar area, it serves the same great food. The menu, with an emphasis on fusion fare and classic Mexican dishes, is more focused than the original menu when the first location opened, making service more streamlined.
I have yet to try anything on the Mexican side of the menu because of how addictive the fusion fare is. The beef fusion tacos are perfect at showcasing the savory and slightly sweet marinated beef. The slaw and pico de gallo enhance the dish even more with the added texture and spiciness. When dining in, don’t forget to try fried options like the chimichanga or flautas. The marinated chicken is also excellent in place of the beef, if you prefer. You really can’t go wrong with any item — burritos, cheesesteaks, sliders, whatever. My guess is you can put their marinated meats on anything and it’ll taste good.
Prices are still reasonable. You can feed a family of three for less than twenty bucks. It may not be as cheap as their original spot when they became popular a few years ago, but at least I don’t feel guilty about paying the minuscule prices anymore. There’s no doubt these are some of the best cheap eats in town.
Don’t forget to download the Epoxy app for their frequent diner card. It’ll save you a few dollars down the road.
