My wife grew up on Davanni’s. So every time we’re in town we have to stop by one of their locations. This past week we stopped by twice — both times for lunch. The first time I got a pizza hoagie. It’s essentially a pepperoni pizza in a hoagie roll. Pepperoni, sauce, and mozzarella on a toasted bun. It’s definitely a tasty sammie with a little zing coming from the sauce and pepperoni.

During my second stop, I went with a solo white pizza with chicken, onions, and pineapple. It was a small, four-slice pie on a regular crust that was a perfect balance of crispy and chewy.

Even though it was busy both times I stopped by, service was still fairly quick. Davanni’s is the kind of place you order at the counter and when your food is ready they’ll call your number or name. Both times we waited less than 15 minutes.

They may not have the best food out there, but for the price — and considering it’s a locally-owned Minneapolis staple — it’s a place that I know I’ll revisit the next time I’m in town.
