During my weekend trip to California I only had one “must-do” on my agenda: eat at the Nom Nom truck. I found them in North Hollywood Easter weekend for their Easter egg hunt and food truck picnic. I wasn’t familiar with the area so I thought there was going to be a park nearby for kids to hunt for eggs. Nope. Just a small parking lot by The Other Door bar. No biggie… I can’t fault the Nom Nom truck for lack of Easter ambiance (although my kid did find an egg with a coupon for free fries from Grindhaus!).
There was virtually no wait to order. I was prepared to wait for hours after hearing others complain about the lines for this truck. But, I only had to wait in line for less than 10 minutes to order and another 5 to get my food. For $8 I got a good sized meal consisting of their grilled pork banh mi, grilled pork taco, and a bottle of water. That’s a bargain in my book.
Both the taco and banh mi were filled with carrots, cucumbers, daikon and cilantro but could have used more meat. I thought the flavors were great. The pork had a tender and sweet quality to it that left me craving for more and the bread for the banh mi was just as I had hoped — a perfect combination of crispy and chewy. I didn’t find any jalapeños in my sandwich. Maybe they’re extra? Regardless, I thought the food lived up to the hype, service was quick and friendly, and Misa is probably the best looking food truck owner around.
