I never thought I’d have one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had in Bakersfield, CA. But, on our way to Morro Bay for some camping, we spent the night at Bakersfield. The next morning we found Moo Creamery on our way out of town. Judging from online reviews, it seemed to be better suited as a lunch or dessert spot. Lucky for us it’s also a can’t miss destination for breakfast.

My wife’s breakfast scramble ($7.50) was a deliciously savory mix of eggs, chorizo, manchego cheese, piquillo peppers and caramelized onions. Along with some ciabatta bread and a bowl of fruit, it was a winner of a dish that my wife was reluctant to share. I wasn’t that hungry and only wanted something small so I opted for a slice of banana bread, which was a thick, moist, satisfying slice. We ordered the French toast sticks ($4) for our kid. Two homemade brioche strips dipped in cinnamon-vanilla egg batter. My kid, who’s super picky, didn’t want to eat it. Well, it’s his loss because it was the best french toast ever. Ever. The exterior was crispy and crunchy while the interior of the toast was light and delicate. I’ll never be able to have another french toast without thinking about the one here. To top it off, we had their freshly squeezed orange juice — also fabulous.

The only negative was how long it took for the food to come out. There were only a few other other parties seated but it still took 20+ minutes to get anything.

Their ice cream menu will make your mouth water… bacon ice cream, guiness stout, Mexican chocolate, red wine chip (red wine and dark bittersweet chocolate apple pie birthday cake vanilla bean ice milk sorbet)… are you kidding me? Plus, it’s all made in-house. I really wanted to try some (it was 9 in the morning) but managed to show a little restraint.
