Believe it or not, there is such a thing as a family-friendly winery. May I introduce you to Larson Family Winery? Forget all the preconceptions you have about typical wineries. This one has a laid back atmosphere. None of that pretentious BS here. They’ve got a bocce ball area, bean bag toss, plenty of picnic tables, a small grassy area, and even some kid toys (scooter and wagons).
The tasting area is in a modified barn with two bars. The tastings are cheap at $5 — you get to choose five wines from a list of about 8-10 wines. Their 2006 cabernet and 2007 meritage were winners in my book.
This place seems to be popular, with two wine tours there during our visit. Service was still friendly and relatively fast with decent pours despite how busy it was. They also have some good marinades (chardonnay and roasted garlic marinade) and olive oil for sale, which we purchased along with a couple bottles of wine.
Our kid also loved playing with their dogs. There were two that came out to play. Bubba, the chocolate lab was eager to fetch or just lay on his back and wait for some rubbies.
Good wine, good environment…. it made for a perfect start to our day.
