This is another review that’s long overdue. We were in the Newport Beach area over Memorial Day weekend and stopped by Crow Burger Kitchen after hanging out on the beach a few short blocks away. I’m a sucker for upscale burgers, especially ones that use fresh, all natural ingredients.
The showstopper of our dining experience was their weekly special burger ($15) — a braised short rib burger with red onion marmalade, blue cheese and red wine aioli. It was tender and succulent, with an amazing savory flavor.
My wife’s “build your own burger” (BYOB), however, had a small, dry patty. We ordered it protein style topped with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, avocado, lemon aioli. It was so dry and overcooked that my wife didn’t finish it and after I took a bite I passed, as well.
The onion rings and fries were a hit. The light and crispy batter coated several large rings of onions perfectly. The skinny cut fries were just as crisp. If you’ve got kids in tow, they don’t have a kid’s menu but have options available if you ask. For my little guy, they were nice enough to make a plain grilled cheese. It’s standard fare, but or a picky eater like him, it was perfect.
They’ve got a diverse selection of craft brews, but don’t forget to check out their non-alcoholic selection of drinks. The pink lemonade and orange-pineapple soda are fabulous options for those not wanting alcohol.
The place is worth a return visit for the onion rings, fries and short rib burger. Hopefully the burgers will be better the second time around.
