My trip to DC brought me all the way down the 95 to visit family and when you’re a good 45 minutes outside of the city, eating out usually means picking from one of the major chain restaurants. So, in an area dominated by the likes of Olive Garden and PF Changs, you’d be hard pressed to find a better meal (and more importantly, a better steak) than at the All American Steakhouse.

The menu is full of typical chain food — salads, steaks, nachos, burgers, etc — but the execution was better than expected. My 6oz. filet ($19) was incredibly tender, well seasoned, and cooked to the desired temp (medium rare). At its low price point, the filet was a bargain compared to similar types of restaurants in and around the area.

Aside from the filet, I had a Caesar salad that was overdressed and sauteed mushrooms that were decent, but oily. My wife’s steak kabobs ($19) were huge, full of large chunks of meat and perfectly grilled vegetables. I didn’t try the other dishes at our table, but everyone seemed pleased with the meal.

The bar area gets loud, so if you want to converse during your meal you’re better off grabbing a table in the main dining area. The restaurant gets busy so make sure to call ahead to put your name on the waitlist.

The All American Steakhouse is a chain with locations in Manassas, Woodbridge, and Ashburn.
