Sushi Roku in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace has a new Summer Break tasting menu for $45 per person available from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I sampled several of the bites from that menu recently, along with two of their cocktails. Items included albacore with garlic aioli and crispy rice crackers; chicken salad “Chinois”; a delicious American kobe meatball; albacore and avocado roll; salmon nigiri with tomatoes; and tuna sashimi with a taro chip (I believe???) and wasbi. One of the best bites of the night (aside from the meatball) was a shiitake mushroom tempura with a truffle mayo.
My least favorite dish was a shrimp dim sum in dashi broth. The cold, gummy, wet potsticker was unappealing to me in both taste and texture. The dishes that shined were bold in flavor with a distinct direction and focus of ingredients. Less successful were dishes like the potsticker and chicken salad that could benefit from stronger flavors. My opinion, of course, if coming from someone with an Americanized palate. But, I’m guessing that a majority of their customer base has a similar palate, as opposed to a Japanese palate that is more in tune with the subtlety of Japanese cuisine.
Sushi Roku is also offering locals 20 percent off all summer long during lunch and dinner.
I’ll refrain from a rating since the meal was comped. I’ll save the stars for my next meal there.
