Dirt Dog, an LA import, took up residence over the summer in a somewhat odd location — in the southwest suburbs off of Rainbow Blvd. where Cheeburger Cheeburger used to be. Back in June when they first opened I attended a preview dinner with fellow bloggers and Instagrammers. After trying three types of dogs, my favorite was the sweeter Brown dog ($5.95) topped with teriyaki sauce and sesame oil. While I’m not typically a hot dog fan, I did like the unique profiles of all three. The fries were only ok and the horchata ice cream was unfortunately melted with a consistency of soup due to a freezer issue. The churro that accompanied the ice cream was good, however. Most of the beer available at the time were lighter, hoppier brews like IPAs. The menu at Dirt Dog is small, but other places have proven that a focused menu equals higher quality. I’d say that Dirt Dog is heading in that direction.
